Carbon Dioxide

CO2 has been used as an extinguishing agent for more than 80 years and was the first gaseous agent used for fire suppression.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colourless, odourless, electrically non-conductive gas that is highly efficient. CO2 has been used as an extinguishing agent for more than 80 years and was the first gaseous agent used for fire suppression. It can be used for local application and total flooding systems and is suited to a wide range of applications and hazards. CO2 has a high rate of expansion enabling rapid fire suppression and provides a heavy blanket of gas that reduces the oxygen level to a point where combustion cannot occur. CO2 is not approved for occupied spaces unless fitted with a safety interlock device to prevent the system from discharging when the enclosure is occupied. Like all fire protection systems, COsystems should only be designed by experienced engineers. CO2 can be used to protect applications such as generator sets, turbines, switch gear, flammable liquid baths, electrical enclosures and transformers.

CO2 EXTINGUISHING AGENT:

  • Extinguishing a fire quickly and effectively
  • Leaves no residue, is non-conductive and doesn’t require costly clean up
  • Minimises down time of vital system operations
  • Superior design performance allows for greater flexibility
  • Zero ozone depleting potential
  • Zero global warming potential
  • Active Fire Listing, FM and UL Approved
