Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppresion System

FIKE CO² - Reliable, Fast, Effective

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colourless, odourless, electrically non-conductive gas that is highly efficient. Extinguishing agent CO2 has been used for more than 80 years and was the first gaseous agent used for fire suppression.  It can be used for local application and total flooding systems and is suited to a wide range of applications and hazards, CO2 has a high rate of expansion enabling rapid fire suppression and provides a heavy blanket of gas that reduces the oxygen level to a point where combustion cannot occur.

C.1.38.01 - Selector Valves

Selector Valves allow a single agent supply to be utilised for protection of multiple hazards, reducing the total amount of agent required. Selector Valves are used to direct the flow of agent (Clean Agent or Carbon Dioxide) into one specific hazard of a multiple hazard application.

E.1.01.01 - CO² Cylinder Assembly

CO² cylinders are factory filled to capacity; partial fills are not allowed. The cylinders may be utilized in single or multiple cylinder applications as needed.

E.1.02.01 - CO² Valve Assembly

Fike Carbon Dioxide cylinders are equipped with a cylinder valve assembly to hold the CO² agent in the cylinder until actuated.

E.1.03.01 - CO² Flexible Discharge Hose with Check Valve

The Flexible Discharge Hose is used to provide a flexible connection between the CO² cylinder valve and the discharge piping or the distribution manifold. The discharge bend has an internal check valve that prevents loss of agent should the system discharge while a cylinder is removed.

E.1.04.01 - CO² Master Cylinder Actuation Package

The Fike Carbon Dioxide Master Cylinder Valve can be actuated by three methods of operation: Manual/Mechanical Actuator Electric Solenoid Actuator (24 Vdc)

E.1.05.01 - CO² “S” Type Nozzles

The “S” Nozzle is primarily used for local application systems but is also listed and approved for use in total flooding applications.

E.1.06.01 - CO² Vent Nozzles

The Vent Nozzle is used for total flooding systems protecting ductwork, electrical compartments, collecting bins, or any other application that requires direct mounting of the nozzle.

E.1.07.01 - CO² Baffle and Radial Nozzles

Baffle Nozzle The Baffle Nozzle is used for total flooding applications only. The nozzle should be located around the perimeter of the protected space. Each nozzle provides a 180° discharge pattern within the protected space.Radial Nozzle The Radial Nozzle is used for total flooding applications. The nozzle(s) can be located around the perimeter or in the center of the protected space. The 3 orifice Radial nozzle is designed for a 180° discharge pattern and the 4 orifice Radial nozzle is the 360° discharge pattern nozzle.

E.1.08.01 - CO² Header Safety Relief

The header safety is constructed of brass and is installed in a 1/2” (15mm) NPT tee or coupling located in the closed section of piping. Should the pressure in a closed section of piping increase to a level of 2,400 to 2,800 psig, the disc will burst and allow the pressure to be vented safely to the atmosphere.

E.1.09.01 - CO² Stop/Maintenance Valves

Fike stop/maintenance valves are available in sizes ranging from 1/2” (15 mm) to 1 1/2” (40 mm). Stop valves are used for lock-out purposes to prevent the discharge of CO² from the nozzles during system maintenance. The valves are equipped with lockable handles that can be locked in either the open or closed position for added security. Lock and key are not included.

E.1.10.01 - CO² Pressure Trip

The Pressure Trip (P/N C70-230) is constructed of brass with two 1/4” (8mm) NPT hubs for pressure connections to the discharge piping. Additional pressure trips can be connected together by running the pressure supply lines from one pressure trip to the next.

E.1.11.01 - CO² Pressure Switch

The Pressure Switch (P/N C70-202) is used to provide an electrical tie-in to the control panel that indicates the system has been activated. The pressure switch can also be used to open, or close, electrical circuits from various functions such as equipment shutdown and alarm activation.

E.1.12.01 - CO² Pressure Switch - Explosion Proof

The pressure switch is a double pole, double throw (DPDT) device housed in an explosion rated housing suitable for use in hazardous rated environments. The switch is activated by the presence of CO² pressure from the discharge piping when the system is activated. When activated, the switch sends a trouble signal to the control panel indicating that the system has been discharged.

E.1.13.01 - CO² Instructional Signs

Instructional signs are provided to inform personnel of any potential hazards they face when operating certain devices or working within areas protected by CO² systems. Signs are designed with black letters on a scratch proof white background. All signs have an adhesive backing for mounting purposes.

E.1.14.01 - CO² Weigh Beam Assembly

The weigh beam assembly is a service tool that enables the system technician to determine the weight of agent in a CO² cylinder. The weigh beam is a one piece assembly that includes a lifting yoke, weigh beam and easy-to-read scale.

E.1.16.01 - CO² Check Valves

Check valves are available in sizes ranging from 1/2” to 2” (15-50 mm) NPT. The body style has a female connection on both ends. The body is brass and the valve seat material is Buna-N.

E.1.17.01 - CO² Single Cylinder Mounting Straps

Cylinder Straps are made of steel, primed and painted red with a baked enamel finish for corrosion resistance. All mounting hardware is supplied by the system installer.

E.1.23.01 - CO² Corner Pulley

The corner pulley, P/N C70-241, is required on a carbon dioxide system whenever remote pull box cable requires a change in direction. Corner Pulleys are installed as part of the cable housing (pipe or conduit) and provides a 90° direction change with minimal loss of force and elimination of induced cable kinking.

E.1.24.01 - CO² Latch Door Type Pull Box

The Latch Door Pull Box on a carbon dioxide system is used to provide mechanical operation of the Stop/Selector valve and/or the Local Lever Actuator from a remote location. The Latch Door Pull Box has a solid cast brass door that must be opened in order to access the pull handle. The pull handle is attached to a 1/16” (2mm) diameter stainless steel actuation cable. A 3/8” NPT female opening is provided in the back of the enclosure for connection of the cable and piping system.

E.1.25.01 - CO² Stop/Selector Valve

The Stop/Selector valve serves two functions: It provides the second stop, Stop Valve function that helps to assure the safe release of CO² into the protected hazard. (Manual activation via a Latch Door Pull Box and stainless steel cable.)

CDAP003 Electrix Discharge Machining (EDM)

What is Electronic Discharge Machining? Electronic Discharge Machining (EDM) is a machining process that uses an electrode to remove metal, or any other conductive material, from a workpiece by generating sparks between conducting surfaces.

CDAP004 Dust Collection System

Dust collection is the process of removing or collecting solid particles from airflow to comply with stringent air pollution standards.

CDAP006 Subfloor Protection

Data centers, telecommunication facilities, internet services, control rooms, and other like facilities consist of similar characteristics that present major fire hazards. In particular, the spaces beneath raised floors pose as much of a fire hazard as does the numerous pieces of computer equipment situated on the raised floors.

CDAP007 Wave Solder Machine

The electronic systems industry continues to grow year after year, increasing printed circuit board (PCB) use and production. Despite some consolidation among the semiconductor market, the demand for electronic systems continues to soar. According to a study conducted by the NOMURA Research Institute, the demand for PCBs will continue to increase worldwide well into the year 2005, allowing the continuation of wave soldering, which will be the focus of this profile.
