Fomtec Foam Concentrates

Fomtec Foam Concentrates

Fire fighting foam concentrates are available to meet a wide range of fire fighting challenges, including industrial, marine, mining, municipal, oil, petrochemical, and transportation applications. Our aqueous film-forming foams (AFFFs), Class B foams, wetting agents, high-expansion foam concentrates, and protein foams are suitable for ground and air attack, creating firebreaks, and can be used with compressed-air foam systems (CAFS), and in mop-up operations.

Fomtec AFFF 3% ICAO

Fomtec AFFF 3% ICAO is an aqueous film forming foam concentrate (AFFF) consisting of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilisers. The foam forms an aqueous film that rapidly cuts off the oxygen supply and knocks down the fire. The expanded foam, from which the film is drained, forms a stable blanket that suppresses the release of flammable vapours and cools down the fuel surface extinguishing the fire and preventing re-ignition. The low surface tension of the water-foam solution enables the aqueous film, although heavier than the burning liquid, to float on top of the liquid surface. Fomtec AFFF 3% ICAO should be used at 3% proportioned solution (3 part concentrate in 97 parts of water) in brackish, fresh or sea water. It may also be stored as a premix solution in fresh water.

Fomtec AFFF 3% S

Fomtec AFFF 3% S is an aqueous film forming foam concentrate (AFFF) consisting of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilisers. The foam forms an aqueous film that rapidly cuts off the oxygen supply and knocks down the fire. The expanded foam, from which the film is drained, forms a stable blanket that suppresses the release of flammable vapours and cools down the fuel surface extinguishing the fire and preventing reignition. The low surface tension of the water-foam solution enables the aqueous film, although heavier than the burning liquid, to float on top of the liquid surface. Fomtec AFFF 3% S should be used at 3% proportioned solution (3 part concentrate in 97 parts of water) in brackish, fresh or sea water. It may also be stored as a premix solution in fresh water.

Fomtec AFFF 3% Ultra

Fomtec AFFF 3% Ultra is a C6 formulated aqueous film forming foam concentrate (AFFF) consisting of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilisers. Fomtec AFFF 3% Ultra should be used at 3% proportioned solution (3 part concentrate in 97 parts of water) in brackish, fresh or sea water. It may also be stored as a premix solution in fresh water.

Fomtec AFFF 6% A

Fomtec AFFF 6% A is an aqueous film forming foam concentrate (AFFF) consisting of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon surfactants blended with various solvents, preservatives and stabilisers. Fomtec AFFF 6% A should be used at 6% proportioned solution (6 part concentrate in 94 parts of water) in brackish, fresh or sea water. It may also be stored as a premix solution in fresh water.

Foam Terminology

Dictionary of terms

General Foam Information

For years, foam has been used as a fireextinguishing medium for flammable and combustible liquids. Unlike other extinguishing agents - water, dry chemical, CO2, etc., a stable aqueous foam can extinguish a flammable or combustible liquid fire by the combined mechanisms of cooling, separating the flame/ignition source from the product surface, suppressing vapors and smothering.

Technical Bulletin Foam Products & the Environment

Because of the potential for broad-scale release of fire fighting foams into the environment and the large volumes of surfactants used worldwide, the environmental fate of these products is an important consideration in choosing an agent, and in determining proper disposal and/or treatment of residue.
